What Is a SME?
A subject matter expert (SME) is someone who has mastered an area of expertise. This is a fuzzy but extremely important term. Some use it to describe highly qualified, recognized experts, but we have a different take on it. You don’t have to be the grand master of a specific subject or possess extraordinary work capability to qualify as a SME. So long as you know more than those looking to learn from you, that makes you the SME.
