Other than adding content to your site, Joomla requires only basic maintenance to keep it running smoothly and hacker free.
The Joomla development group releases regular security and maintenance releases in the form of “dot revisions.” For example, if you are currently using Joomla 1.6.0, when the Joomla 1.6.1 patch or security release is announced, you can immediately install the new patch. Security releases are considered to be minor updates and not major upgrades.
