Probably the most satisfying aspect of this entire solution is the ability to give people the actionable intelligence as knowledge formed from the metrics. Delivery options are many and varied. Initially, the platform seems like a good candidate for a virtual command-and-control center where you find all the action. However, the control center may serve only a few people unless there is a notification system that notifies the right people just in time when it really matters on a critical KPI. But given the idea of virtualized delivery, the platform may also serve senior management located in remote areas around the globe such that they may access the console for on-demand metrics. Remote access is known as virtual network computing (VNC).

7.1 PUSH VERSUS PULL DELIVERY

A means of delivery or notion of push or pull could be considered a performance monitoring architecture. In simple terms, a push metric means metrics periodically sent by each monitored system to a central collection point such as a web portal or KPI consumer, perhaps an e-mail account. A pull metric is a request from central KPI collection point or consumer periodically requesting metrics from each monitored system.
