The structure is as follows.

The top tier, such as browser, is the user interface on the client computer.

The middle tier, such as web server, contains the application’s business logic. A leftward arrow labeled, X H T M L, points from the web server to the browser.

The bottom tier contains the application’s data, typically in a database. A double headed arrow labeled, J D B C, is between web server and database.
