Chapter 12. The Java Message Service
The Java Message Service (JMS) belongs to a category of middleware commonly referred to as MOM, or Message-Oriented Middleware. MOM is most commonly used for cross-application messaging, rather than for passing messages within an application. For example, messaging products are frequently used in the area of Enterprise Application Integration (EAI), for tying together different applications provided by different vendors (or perhaps written in-house) that might be in different languages, running on different operating systems and platforms.
