INTRODUCTION AND SCOPE

Event management monitors all events throughout the organisation’s IT infrastructure and applications to ensure normal operation. Event management handles normal messages as well as being there to detect, escalate and react to exceptions. It is a key activity of IT operations.

The event management process is responsible for managing events throughout their lifecycle.

Essentially an event represents any change of state that is important for managing services or configuration items. It is also used to denote an alert or notification raised by a monitoring tool or item. Alerts frequently require action by staff and may lead to incidents being raised, while notifications may simply be recorded.
