3 Basic change management (phase 1)

In this first phase, we’ll be taking our first step. In order to ensure our first step is, as Tzu implies, ‘in the right direction’, we must first take an inventory of how change management is currently being handled.

Formally done, this is what’s commonly called a ‘gap analysis’ – an inventory of current state of change management along with a reasoned declaration of desired end state. Whether undertaken formally, or informally, it’s important to have a good understanding of the current and desired future state of change management, as I’ll explore in this chapter.
