Chapter 4. What Can I Do with Tags?
Being able to find photos is an important skill.To locate them, you must first label them with tags.You can then use those tags to find photos you want to view or use in projects. The images in your library can have many kinds of tags, with each one useful in specific situations. For example, you can tag photos by rating them; then you can search for photos with a specific rating or include a rating as a search criterion.Tags available in iPhoto include flags, photo information, keywords, ratings, events, faces, and places.
Understanding Tags
Tags are simply information that is associated with the photos in your library. While they serve a number of purposes, the most important one is they aid your search for photos. This might sound basic, but if you have 10,000 photos in your library, finding a specific photo is akin to finding the proverbial needle in a haystack.
You also use tags to organize the Viewing pane. As you learned in Chapter 2, you can sort the Viewing pane many ways. This sorting is based on the tags associated with the photos you are viewing, as shown in Figure 4.1.
