Taking and browsing photos and videos
Equipment needed: Any iPad, to view photos and copy them from your computer or digital camera. If you want to take photos with your iPad, you'll need an iPad with built-in cameras.
Skills needed: Familiarity with starting and using apps, using onscreen controls and gestures including pinch and flick.
The iPad's large, high-quality screen is perfect for showing off your digital photographs to friends and family, and for making simple edits. In this chapter, you'll find out how to browse and edit your photos on your iPad.
With the exception of the very first model, which doesn't include a camera, all iPads have two cameras: the main camera on the back of the device (officially called the iSight) and a second one on the front (called the FaceTime camera). The iSight is capable of taking high-quality digital photos. It can capture less detail than many digital cameras, but the photos it takes will still be pretty good. It can also capture video footage. The iPad's FaceTime camera is slightly lower quality; it is mainly used as a webcam for conducting video calls (see Chapter 7). Both cameras are ideal for capturing informal shots though, especially if you carry your iPad everywhere but don't usually have a separate camera with you.
