DESIGN GOALS OF ROUTING PROTOCOLS
The route advertisements are used by routers and bridges to calculate routes and make entries in a routing table. The manner in which the route is calculated is based on a routing algorithm, and the algorithm is a very important part of the overall routing architecture.
The network designer and manager carefully evaluate these algorithms, and look for key aspects of their behavior. Five design goals can be established for routing algorithms [THOM98]. [4] They are depicted in Figure 1-9.
