1.1 Introduction

The concept of Internet of Things (IoT) is not very old. It was coined by Kevin Ashton back in 1999 (Ashton, 2009) and featured on Gartner’s “hype-cycle for emerging technologies” in 2011 (Fenn and LeHong, 2011).
