After a year and a half in my basement, it was time to move my software business to an office. Though it would cost more, it would protect the privacy of my wife and kids, and create a healthy separation between work life and home life.
We lived in the country, near Piper City, a small town of just 800 people, a grain elevator, and a main street business district that’s just one block long. Decades ago those main street buildings housed a bank, a car dealership, a barbershop, a furniture store, and more. Some of the residents and leaders of the town didn’t want to admit it, but most of that was long gone and wasn’t coming back.
