Snort on Windows
For a long time, the only way to install Snort was on a Unix OS. Fortunately for Windows users, one of the two companies that built a business out of providing Snort-related support, Silicon Defense, put together a Windows port of Snort. This was done to bring Snort to a wider community of computer users. They also developed a binary distribution of Snort for Windows that will automate a good portion of the Snort installation process. I make use of the binary in this chapter to save time.
