Biochemistry is a big part of surveillance but we’re largely unaware of it because most of it happens behind‑the‑scenes in laboratories, some of which have carefully monitored temperature and humidity or which are designated as clean rooms—areas that are kept as sterile as possible to prevent contamination of samples or evidence.
