Introduction

Computers are an intrinsic aspect of recent breakthroughs in surveillance technologies. From desktops to laptops, to multifunction phones and “smart” surveillance cameras, computer circuitry is fast being incorporated into even the tiniest devices. Smartphones are now as powerful as computers were a few years ago and are used in many aspects of surveillance.

Computers can serve as standalone data storage archives, or as “operations centers” for devices that are communicating from other locations. Laptops are often used as base stations in the field.
