5 Initiating and Planning Project Scope

• Describe the elements and purpose of a project charter.
• Define the elements that go into a project scope statement.
• Gather requirements for your project.
In Chapter 2, we talked about how to select projects when the demand for projects is high, but the resources available are low. We looked at a project selection method and noted that all projects should relate to the organization’s strategic intent. After a project is selected, the CEO does not just find an available project manager and say, okay, here is what I want you to do, when do you think it will be done? At least we hope that is not what happens.
