How a 3D Model Is Represented
In recent years, 3D digital data have gone through a revolution in terms of diffusion and use in several applications, just like it happened before for other digital media such as audio, video and images. This has motivated the development of new ways to represent digital 3D content. In this chapter, we will give an overview of several ways to represent the geometry of a 3D object on a computer. Our main goal is to provide insights to the reader about how to handle the geometry of a 3D model in his/her graphics application.
