The Basic Equations of Fluid Dynamics
7.1 INTRODUCTION
The first part of the book consisting of the first six chapters is intended to make the reader familiar with mathematical foundation needed for the computational methods discussed. The first chapter briefly recapitulates the more important properties of partial differential equations together with boundary and/or initial conditions needed in our subsequent study. Chapter 2 introduces the reader to the computational methods studied in detail in this book, namely the finite difference and the finite volume methods. Chapters 3 to 6 give the foundation of finite difference study of partial differential equations of parabolic, hyperbolic, elliptic and mixed elliptic-hyperbolic types, respectively. ...
