Preface to second edition
In the years since Howard Hutchings wrote the original text of this book, it has proved to be an invaluable guide to the many engineers and technicians who have an interest in, or need to be involved with the topics which he introduced with such clarity. I have been asked by Newnes to re-edit and update the content so that it can continue to perform this worthwhile role.
As stated on page vii, the first edition developed C programs on a Compaq 80386 Personal Computer and compiled using Microsoft C 5.1. Since then, the technology has inevitably moved on.
