Abstract

Every decade has seen humanity make huge leaps in technology. With the passage of time, the number of gadgets and appliances at our disposal have increased and so has the energy consumed by it. Human negligence has resulted in the wastage of energy. Often, appliances are left on when they are not in use. In such a scenario, we are proposing a system that will automatically control the power supply to these appliances and thus save a large amount of money in the long run. The proposed system uses cameras powered by computer vision to detect the presence of people in a room and control the power of appliances like lights. The system can also work on appliances like television sets such that it turns off when the user moves away or falls asleep. The system is flexible and can also be used in office scenarios. The system can be used to send alerts to users when someone enters a room after a specified time, thus securing the premises. The whole system is monitored in real time, without storing the data anywhere and so protecting the privacy of the user.
