Chapter 10. OpenBoot

In previous chapters, you were introduced to the OpenBoot PROM (programmable read-only memory) (OBP) when we turned on the system hardware and booted the operating system. This chapter provides more details on the OpenBoot environment. It describes the functionality available at the OpenBoot PROM and describes how the OpenBoot PROM initiates the loading of the kernel, which ultimately starts the operating system.
