Preface

The need to write this book on innovation came out of a challenge the co-authors experienced in finding any textbook for teaching a graduate course on innovation at the Air Force Institute of Technology. The course, entitled “Advanced topics in defense innovation” catered to a mix of military and civilian graduate students in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). Most innovation books in the textbook market are on the management and other qualitative topics. For graduate students in engineering and mathematics, the innovation textbook must meet rigorous advanced expectations for challenging lecture materials.
