TPM performance assessment before code optimization
Assessment of the performance of the translated C++ and Java code was a key objective of the TPM project and a core adoption concern, especially for Java because its runtime architecture and reputation (slower runtime and erratic response times) had raised red flags about the suitability of the language for air traffic management applications within the ATC community. The TPM pilot project was thus a unique opportunity to obtain a definitive benchmark of comparison between the Ada, C++, and Java languages. At the time the pilot was initiated, the target language of the EATMS project was still C++ due to performance concerns regarding Java.
