Transformation
The transformation phase of modernization includes tasks related to reusing the “essence” of the existing application and data architecture in a new target application and data architecture. Target architectures change over time. Years ago, target architecture may have been considered a C or C++-based client server environment, although this was a highly code-centric versus model-driven environment.
Today, target architecture likely refers to a combination of SOA, MDA, cloud computing, or whatever comes next. While targets shift over time, the concept of using modernization to achieve those architectures is constant.
