Introduction

1. Our use of the term contextual intelligence applies to the manner in which business executives are sensitive to macro-level contextual factors (specifically, government intervention, global affairs, demography, social mores, technology, and labor) in the creation, growth, or transformation of businesses. The term contextual intelligence was identified by Robert J. Sternberg, The Triarchic Mind: A New Theory of Human Intelligence (New York: Viking, 1988), as “the ability to adapt well to one’s environment but also to modify this environment in order to increase the fit between the environment and one’s adaptive skills.”
