Syslog

Syslog allows a computer or device to deliver messages to another computer or device. Syslog messages are text messages with a particular formatting that associate a facility, severity, and/or priority with a message. The syslog messages have different severity levels, as indicated by the number in the message. These severity levels are essentially a measure of the criticality of a system event. The following image shows the various syslog severity levels and their corresponding meaning:
