Chapter 13. Implementing Cisco IOS Voice Gateways and Cisco Unified Border Element
Cisco Collaboration network leverages Internetwork Operating System (IOS) voice gateways to (inter)connect different networks (e.g. PSTN to IP and vice versa) and different protocols (e.g. SIP to H.323). A Cisco IOS voice gateway is the fundamental block of Cisco Collaboration network and offers various functions; from most trivial to more complex. An IOS voice gateway can be configured as a Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) termination endpoint or can be configured as Session Border Controller (Cisco Unified Border Element [CUBE]) to broker two or more heterogeneous (varied features or protocols) networks.
