SO WHAT WOULD IT MEAN to meet an adaptive change adaptively, rather than technically? In other words, what would it mean to intentionally support the development of complexity of mind? In many respects the rest of this book is an answer to that question.
We have learned that meeting adaptive challenges requires, first, an adaptive formulation of the problem (i.e., we need to see exactly how the challenge comes up against the current limits of our own mental complexity), and, second, an adaptive solution (i.e., we ourselves need to adapt in some way).
