WOOD AND LUMBER

WOOD AND LUMBER are not interchangeable terms, although there is a direct relationship between the two of them. Wood refers to the species of tree that lumber comes from. Lumber is a product that is manufactured from wood. Lumber has a uniform size and fits into certain categories, so theoretically all 2×4s that are 10 feet long are exactly the same size. All lumber is made of wood, but not all wood is made into lumber. Plywood panels are made from logs, just like lumber is, but they are a manufactured product that often uses parts of many different trees sliced up and glued back together.
