“My internship at Kaiser was canceled because of Covid-19,” a nursing student said. It was April 2020 and internships were in short supply due to the global pandemic, and internships were a prerequisite for this nurse to finish school. I considered ways I might help her: on our team and throughout the company we were in a hiring freeze, and I was preoccupied with supporting a workshop to help clients align their goals. It would take about four hours of my time to talk with my boss and complete the process to submit the internship for approval from Finance.
