The Fibre Channel upgrade option is available with both of the 3600 Series LTO tape libraries.

This FC upgrade option allows the tape library to be used in a FC installation. It acts as a FC

router to provide attachment to supported FC host adapters through a supported FC switch.

A Remote Management option card is provided with the 3600 Series 2/4 TB LTO Tape

Library. It can be added to the 900 GB/1.8 TB LTO Tape Autoloader. This card is used to

provide remote management and diagnostics from a Web browser. Some of the features that

are included are:

򐂰 Direct plug-in to a 10/100 BaseT Ethernet network

򐂰 Remote library management

򐂰 Error status (checking and control)

򐂰 Firmware downloads

Summary and SAN attachment for the 3600 LTO series

You have two ways to connect the 3600 LTO tape library to a SAN environment as shown in

Table 4-7. The preferred way is to use the Fibre Channel upgrade option, but it is also

possible to use the SAN Data Gateway Router, 2108-R03.

4.3 IBM TotalStorage MP 3570 and 3575

IBM TotalStorage MP tape subsystems were designed for applications where fast access to

mass data is important. Data retrieval requests that require minutes on other tape devices

take only seconds on IBM TotalStorage MP.

The IBM TotalStorage MP family comprises the 3570 drives and autoloaders, and the 3575

libraries. The IBM TotalStorage MP products are now superseded by Ultrium drives and

libraries. We discuss them briefly, since you may have existing IBM TotalStorage MP libraries

that you want to attach to a SAN.
