Every project is different, and so are the organizations in which the projects are executed. Besides their uniquenesses, these organizations share many commonalities and similarities for which a general process framework like RUP can be used. The differences must then be detailed and refined to make the process work in the particular situation. The framework gives an organization a disciplined and repetitive approach, leading to more efficiency in execution. Process engineers, on the other hand, need to refine the framework to meet the situational needs. They can tie RUP to an individual project or to the organization.
