There are many applications of Data Science. Executives tend to target the immediate decision on their minds, likely the last thing that they asked an analyst to examine. At the senior level, these questions tend to be predictive or explanatory—“What should we report to the Street” or “Why are sales falling in the Americas.” More operational, day-to-day decisions are often abstracted away from the upper echelons of management, and so operational applications are underrepresented among Data Science projects.
