1.   When I started thinking about this book, it was important to me to capitalize Black—like Asian, Latinx, and Indigenous. We have been capitalizing Black for years at Change Catalyst. W. E. B. Du Bois pushed for capitalizing Negro in the 1920s; Ebony, Essence, and other Black magazines have capitalized Black for many years. This movement is growing, as people work to recognize Black culture, and a unique experience with systemic racism. As I began writing this, however, capitalizing every racial and ethnic identity except White did not feel right. I decided to capitalize White for several reasons.
