Fade In or Fade Out to Black?

To have your movie fade in from black, click once on the Transition icon (it’s just to the right of the little scissors icon, at the top left of the Timeline panel, and circled above in red), and click on Fade With Black in the dialog that pops up. At the bottom of this dialog, you’ll see a Duration field. Enter how long you want that fade in to last, then drag- and-drop the Fade With Black transition onto the front of the first clip in your timeline.
