13.1 Additive Color Imagery

On a television screen, for a single dot to appear as white it will have to be made up from three smaller dots. The dots, in the case of a cathode ray tube, are phosphors and phosphor will glow when hit by a beam of electrons and it will glow with a different brightness depending on the strength of the beam. The three small dots of phosphor that make up a larger dot that can appear to glow white have phosphors capable of glowing red, green or blue. A nearly infinite number of colors can be obtained from varying the brightness of each of the colored dots.
