Introduction

Le Corbusier’s Vers une architecture translates literally as ‘Toward an Architecture’ but is more commonly known as ‘Towards a New Architecture’ after the 1927 translation by Frederick Etchells of this name. It was one of the most influential architectural books of the 20th century, setting out Le Corbusier’s theory of modern architecture [Le Corbusier, Vers une architecture, Editions G. Crès et Cie., Paris, 1923].
