Chapter 9. Data Mapping

In Chapters 7 and 8, we looked at data modeling and data transformations. As part of our learning, we created the foundations of a successful strategy for data mapping to the Customer 360 standard data model by undertaking the appropriate data profiling and relevant data classification of the source data. We also created necessary streaming data transforms to clean and normalize the source data. Now, we’re ready to map the DLOs to their respective DMOs.

Throughout the chapter, we’ll discuss the following menu options:

  • Data Lake (for confirming the category)
  • Data Streams (for mapping)
  • Data Explorer (for validation)

Getting Started

This section contains the required prework as well as some important things you should know before you get started.

Prework

Data mapping activities are hands-on sets of tasks used to implement your data model, so you’ll need to have completed all the data modeling exercises and data model planning first. You’ll also need to have created any data transforms.

In this chapter, we’ll learn how to manually map data from the DLOs to the DMOs. Some data mapping should already have been completed automatically when we installed data bundles. In Chapter 6, we learned how to leverage Data Cloud starter bundles for Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, and Loyalty Management Cloud using the Salesforce CRM Connector. We also learned about other Salesforce Cloud connectors including B2C Commerce, Omnichannel Inventory, Marketing Cloud, Marketing ...
