Introduction to Flash Media Server
When people talk about Flash video, they quite often mention Flash Media Server in the same breath, and for a reason. At the time of this writing, Flash Media Server is the only production-ready platform that can stream FLV video files (as opposed to serve them progressively).
In this chapter, I will introduce you to Flash Media Server, its history, licensing options and capabilities. I will walk you through a typical installation routine and give you an overview of the server’s folder structure, pointing out common pitfalls. In the last section you will learn how to connect to the server using Adobe’s efficient RTMP protocol.
