Embedding Streams in Your Web Pages
Putting streaming media in a Web page is more complicated than most types of Web content, and it’s potentially the most confusing. That’s because streaming media requires the use of a helper application, a piece of software that’s not part of the Web browser. In the case of streaming media, the helper application is the media player. And the media player can be used in two ways: as a standalone application, or as a browser plug-in. Each has advantages and disadvantages and different implementations.
