Working with microcontrollers or any other electronic equipment involves working with interfaces, the electronic circuits that connect one device to another for communications. If you are designing electronic equipment, you have probably already worked with one or more interfaces. The most common wired interfaces, for example, are USB and HDMI in consumer equipment and RS-232/RS-485 in industrial equipment. However, there are dozens of others, some of which may not be familiar. Over the years, many new serial interfaces have been developed for specific purposes.
