The first time I gave any thought to wireless communication security was around 2001 when WEP cracking became popular. Suddenly data networks took to the air, and, just as suddenly, the security of those networks was compromised.
There was something particularly exciting about wireless security. Networks could be attacked without any physical access or interconnection! An eavesdropper with a very good antenna could monitor a network from a tremendous distance!
