4 Combined heat and power

Deregulation of the electricity supply industries around the world after 1990 kick-started the combined heat and power business where none had existed before. Once it became possible for anybody to generate electricity it became possible for any industry to install a gas turbine and heat recovery boiler to supply their electricity and process steam independently of the public utility, and moreover get a fair market price for any electricity sold which was surplus to requirements.
