Epilogue

Teaching and practicing global business, primarily in the United States and Europe, I witnessed an intriguing phenomenon: The evolution of the traditional role of business enterprising from a purely profit-centered one to one that added a dimension of societal responsibility and responsiveness. To some extent, today’s business consciously undertakes governmental roles of economic growth, life quality, research, health, and education. Business entities become quasi-nations of the past, sometime larger than them, with their own corporate cultures and philosophies, ethic codes, governance processes, and bureaucracies.
