Many of us look for a quick fix or an easy answer to our money troubles. We’re convinced that if the stars align and everything goes according to plan, our fiscal problems will soon be solved. There are two fundamental flaws in this strategy. The first is the high odds against such a stellar alignment; the second is that if this windfall were to occur, the chances are we wouldn’t use it for what we so desperately wish to use it for now anyway. Sound ridiculous? Yet I have seen it time and time again. The reality is that, if we haven’t worked for something, we rarely appreciate the true value of it.
