In this chapter, we’ll discuss the foundational knowledge needed by any professional game programmer. We’ll explore numeric bases and representations, the components and architecture of a typical computer and its CPU, machine and assembly language, and the C++ programming language. We’ll review some key concepts in object-oriented programming (OOP), and then delve into some advanced topics that should prove invaluable in any software engineering endeavor (and especially when creating games).
