12.1. Introduction

In all our previous discussions of statistical signal processing we have assumed that the data consists of a single record of N real data samples. The data is usually presumed to have originated as the result of sampling a real analog temporal waveform at equally spaced instants of time. The intent in this chapter is to address complex data, primarily used in the fields of radar, sonar, and communications.
