Abstract:
The choice of thin-film photovoltaic (PV) materials is put in the context of the Shockley–Queisser limit for the maximum performance of a single-junction solar cell. There are a range of semiconductor materials that are suitable for thin-film PV but those that are currently on an industrial scale can be divided into thin-film silicon, cadmium telluride and copper indium gallium diselenide (CIGS).
