A New Game of Hope

WHEN MY DAD DIED, MY MOM SAID “I HAVE FAITH. I don’t know what I believe, but I have faith.”

They had been married for 60 years, and my Mom didn’t feel any certainty after my Dad’s death. Still, she felt something that she called faith.

Faith arises out of limited human understanding, but it nudges people toward expansive full-spectrum thinking about life possibilities. Faith is related to clarity. Faith kindles hope.

But faith is not the same as certainty; faith is not an answer. Faith includes questions—usually lots of questions. Faith is at least a touch fuzzy. Faith is inherently future oriented.
