For many academics, ensuring their scholarly endeavours have impact is an increasingly important aspiration. Greater focus on the value creation activities of academic institutions has put impact high on the agenda. The universities employing them occupy privileged positions as ‘repositor[ies] of clever minds’ (Moscardini et al., 2022, p. 822) and so are expected to contribute to the intellectual wealth of society (Kogut and Zander, 1992; Grant, 2002).
